What does better mean?

My few blogs around bridging the gap has brought a few things to the forefront.  “This way is better”, litters my trial blocking my view.  You can find better results, you must do it this way, everyone follows this better path, in past projects we found it better to, this is better since that is a failure, it’s better to get moving now, or its better just to do nothing.   A few of the “better” definitions I’ve heard recently.

Reading Seth’s blog, he too has faced the concept of “better”.  Typically, better is from a point of view.  This view is skewed by our education and experiences.  I was told to research a different way because it is better, better because this trail is what everyone takes.  I was told this platform is better because the customer perceives it as a better solution.

This is a hard lesson for everyone, including myself.  You don’t get to decide what’s better, I do.  You can provide constructive criticism to provide your view.  You can provide negative (fear) thoughts to get your way.  You can even chain me up and drag me down the trail you perceive as better.  In the end, I must decide what is “better”.  Right or wrong.

In the end, I find this as another trade-off.  I weigh the criteria in my multi-criteria decision and do my best to make the “better” choice.  If I find a better solution or my weights change, I can update my “better” choice.  Make a decision even if it is wrong.  There are very few situations where the majority rule is the best way to travel.

This brings me to another question on why is something “wrong”.

Thank You for listening.
