No matter if I'm working on research, a software application, hobby, or a family outing - "I need more Time!"; or do I?
Time is a tricky beast. Things that I have been working with or on for years, I fall into the habit of: here are the 7 rules and the manual of how it's supposed to be done; step by step.
I know when I have more time, it creates anxiety; especially if I’m not activity working on the problem. How to convert time into insight? How do you know when more time is lowering the quality of the decision? More time without more information = anxiety.
The danger here is fixing your thoughts on more time (or having spent more time) creates better decisions. Junior answers, or some may say from less experienced people, provides more information and new perspectives; valuable assets that should be leveraged. More time does not create better decisions.
I look back at papers or systems that I created under tight timelines. I made decisions with the information and moved on; which freed up time so I could work on the next part of the problem or something else.
I’m going to try out some advice from Seth over the next few weeks and keep you posted on how it works; especially dealing with time:
“What happens if, starting today, I make every decision as soon as I have a reasonable amount of data?”
Thank You for listening.
