I enjoy helping others. If I can contribute an amount of time to someone that needs help, is frustrated, or just wants to learn – that time is well spent. I know, from a past of helping and teaching, not to expect a return. In fact, I don’t do it for the return; yet it often returns evolved in one form or other.
Recently, I helped someone. This person was in a bind, actually wasn’t moving at all. I provided some help, with a few nudges to get the person out of the rut. Could I have stayed on my path and looked down at the individual in the rut and say “wow, you are stuck – you poor b…”. I changed my path and found myself looking first hand at the rut. If you ever pulled a car out of a snow bank – you know that if you are the tow truck – you better get on firm ground and try a different angle.
After quite some time, we were both out of the rut. What shocked me in this case, the person was upset because it took a few tries to get them out. Felt like I pulled them out of the snow bank and as they drove off they throw snowballs at me.
My first instinct was…. forget helping anyone again. After the initial shock wore off, I know this was not the right path for me. I enjoy helping others.
So if you get a few snowballs thrown at you, duck and carry on.
Thank You for listening.
