In the world of computing, BoF (Birds of a Feather) can refer to:
- Groups formed by people interested in a particular issue or topic.
The first use of this term among computer specialists is uncertain, but it was employed by many. BoFs can facilitate networking and partnership formation among subgroups, including functionally-oriented groups such as CEOs, geographically-oriented, or topic interest groups.
BoFs generally allow for more interaction by all; the discussions are not completely unguided, though, as there is still a discussion leader.
Plato used the phrase in The Republic, 360 B.C.E, "I will tell you, Socrates, he said, what my own feeling is. Men of my age flock together; we are birds of a feather, as the old proverb says;"
I’m fortunate enough to belong to such a group. Join or start a BoF group!
